On Feb. 14, 2018, the unthinkable happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. I am not numbed to the fact that fellow high school students throughout this country risk their lives every day to go to school. On Friday, it happened again at Santa Fe High School, and now I find my fear and confusion that our Congress cannot take action to protect us turning to anger.

The unthinkable has fueled a movement in our country pleading for gun reform, school safety and stressing the need to get out the vote. The upcoming midterm elections will be used as the barometer to decide if these grassroots efforts have any staying power. All high school seniors are being encouraged to register to vote before graduation. However, this will not be enough...
